Myron Garnes is a USSF “A” Licensed coach with over 40 years of coaching experience. A native of Trinidad & Tobago, he moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 13 to attend Watford Boarding School. He’d later join the Manchester United Youth Academy, but didn’t land a professional contract following a major injury. He left the UK in the 1970s to attend the Howard Univerisity in Washington, D.C where he played two years for the Bison under Legendary Coach Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips and graduating with a degree in Engineering. Following his graduation, he would later pursue an Assistant head coaching position at Essex Community College in Maryland. As a 5-time state cup champion in both Maryland and Virginia, Garnes continued to excel as a coach in the youth soccer world.
From July 2000 – August 2006, Garnes held the position as Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach at the Chesapeake Athletic Dragons, a former Premier Development League club based in Maryland. Following his roles at Chesapeake, Garnes moved on to coach at Herndon Soccer Club and Reston Soccer Association in Virginia, before landing his first Technical Director job in August 2015 at St. Mary’s Soccer United, in Maryland. During his time at St. Mary’s he oversaw 500 travel players and 2,000 recreational players. In his 3 years at the club, many teams went on to win the Maryland State Cup and compete at prestigious tournaments such as the Surf Cup in California, as well as the Dallas Cup, in Texas.
Garnes prides himself on helping thousands of players in the DC, MD, VA area land scholarships at universities, and professional contracts domestically and internationally. Many notable players who helped excel at the professional level includes Kyle Beckerman (former US National Team Player and Major League Soccer Veteran), Oguchi Oneywu (Former US National Team Player and a professional in many clubs in Europe including AC Milan (Italy), Queens Park Rangers (England), just to name a few. Garnes’ passion has always been player development, and his book called Technical Skills for Life: Understanding the 5 Lanes of Play, is a must have to help players to understand their roles on the field.
